CO or COM?

Co or com, that is the question. If you want to mark your mark, I say scoop up a .co domain right now. The CO domain is making headlines. Trust me, .CO will be the new .COM. Overstock.com did it. Sources say they bought O.CO for $350K, and GoDaddy launched its X.CO site for shortening URLs, and also spent upward of $6 Million dollars to promote this new trend during the Super Bowl, which is the advertising showcase of America. That should say something right there. I bought this very domain, tylar.co just 3 weeks ago for $12.00. Now, just 3 weeks later, every .co domain costs $30.00. Hmmm.

So, what’s going on? According to I.CO (which is previously well known as cointernet.co), “Little is the New Big”. This means we can expect major companies to start branding themselves by a shortened, catchy, easier-to-remember, domain. After all, .COM has been around forever now and I’d say it’s about time there’s a new king of the WWW castle. And let’s face it, .NET just didn’t make it happen.

Shorter is better. These days, life is all about shortcuts. That’s why our phones have apps, our cars have GPS, our laptops have icons called “shortcuts”, and our keys to our cars have remotes. Easier is better. Take just one silly little letter off of the end of your domain, think of a catchy acronym or shorter version of yourself or your company and go get your new, easier, domain now.

Funny thing is, I was starting to wonder what we’ll do when all the .COMs are gone. It seems we are quickly approaching that point. So, once you’ve spent your $12 (NOW $30) on your new .CO, now it’s time to re-brand yourself and your new online presence. Ready? Get in touch with me and let’s get a jump start on promoting your business’ new identity!
